Patti Stern Winkel

Patti Stern Winkel

Like so many of you, I was so immediately drawn to-- and initially terrified by -- Mr. Trautwein when he came to Blind Brook that very first year. I think we all thought, "Who is this guy?" as he ran wildly up and down the aisles of the theater shouting excitedly about one thing or another. He knew so much about music, and cared so passionately about us that it was impossible not to love him right back. Working with him and allowing him to push you beyond your limits was thrilling. I was inspired by him and know that my lifelong involvement with music and theatre is due largely to his influence and passion.

I last saw George about 18 months ago. I spent a few hours with him and Michael. He was sharp as a tack and remembered everything and everyone! He remembered moments I had long forgotten and I'm so glad he reminded me. We sure had some great times, didn't we?

My heart goes out to Michael, and to all of you. I'm happy that George's physical suffering is over but I am weeping right now... What a loss. What a life!

P.S. Memories:
Vocal warm-ups: "Where shall I hit him today?"
Being "taught" the word 'sternum'
