Steve Kaplan

Steve Kaplan

As Blind Brook Board of Education President, I have often heard of the amazing open classroom era and the birth of Blind Brook High School. The uniqueness and quality of the faculty always is foremost in that discussion. Tonight, having read every one of your amazing and poignant posts about George Trautwein, I feel as if I were there myself, and I truly can appreciate the art of fine teaching, and the impact that a teacher can make. I wish that every student, here and everywhere, should have the experiences in and out of the classroom that you had. It is clear that George Trautwin is a part of each and every one of you, and that you would have it no other way. Monday morning I will be welcoming and addressing the faculty at Superintendent's Conference Day. With your postings and the memory of George Trautwin fresh in my mind, I will use my time to remind the faculty of the importance of their work, and impress upon them the impact their teaching can make in the life of a student. Similarly, 2 years ago I added a new BB tradition, changing tenure night into a Celebration of Teaching by honoring both that year's tenure recipients and those retiring. Reference to all you have shared here about George will certainly help celebrate and encourage what teaching is all about. Thank you for inviting me into your group - I know I will be a better board member having read about your experiences in the nascent days of Blind Brook. I do hope a formal dedication in honor of George Trautwien can be accomplished and I look forward to meeting you at that time.
