Melissa Morris Petrafesa

Melissa Morris Petrafesa

I have been captivated by everyone's words and love for George Trautwein, all our teachers and the BBHS era.

I was in awe of George. I remember his passion, his smile, his dedication and that twinkle in his eye. He along with Pete Tarshis opened up my heart to the theatre and taught me life lessons about commitment, creativity, being present (and what happened when you weren't) along with believing in myself.
I was in Pirates of Penzance and Guys and Dolls. How I loved every minute!
I went on to spend many years in the theatre working backstage. My diaphragm never quite expanded with enough breath to be onstage. I do remember those exercises.

One of the greatest moments in the theatre for me was just a couple of months ago and I believe it all ties back to the amazing music teacher who knew we had it in us to be our best.

I choreographed 50 boys and girls for the 5th grade finale act of their variety show.
I stood in the wings and witnessed a memory being imprinted into the hearts of 10 year olds who were performing for the first time with confidence and joy.

Not only did George Trautwein do this for me and so many others, he went one step further.
He gave us the tools to create more and even more. All of these wonderful stories prove that.
I will be forever grateful.
Much love, Melissa
