Michael Feigin

Michael Feigin

What can I say about George the person and the teacher that hasn't been said by so many of you, other than to echo them all? But what I'd like to say I should have said in person so many years ago. I am who I am today in very large part because of George. I always loved to sing, but George gave it shape, and purpose, and perhaps most importantly, context. Those who knew me at Blind Brook know how important sports were to me. But when faced with a choice in college, I chose singing. Everything moved on from there. Singing gave me life long friends and experiences. Singing gave me my dear sweet brother in law, who was taken from us too soon this past summer. Singing gave me my wife and a cherished second family, and someone who I could really call dad. George gave me all of this. He gave me a work ethic. He showed me that letting my passion go was okay, even desirable. Someone else mentioned that to George it was axiomatic that anyone could sing. As I moved on in life and became a mentor to others, I can't tell you how many times I recalled to them that faith George had in his students. So now, even in death, George is teaching us another valuable lesson: Don't leave things unsaid. Tell those close to you that you love them, look up that old friend, call someone you've been thinking about but haven't spoken to in a long time, forget old feuds. Do it today, because tomorrow may be too late. I love you all, old friends, and George, if you can hear me, I love you.

Michael - You have made the essential point. You have, I think, summed up what many of us are feeling as we relish this site and the lessons it implies. Reach out. Embrace the best in ourselves and in those we know (and cherish). I really appreciate what you have written here.

Leave it to my brother! Remember the time Mike, when I got to hold the ax in The Mikado? I was 10? We were late for rehearsal because of YOU! Mr. Trautwein read you the riot act, and you blamed it on me! Your little 10 year old sister. Our family shared a lot of love for GT. But Michael was always his favorite. I love you Mike. You're also my favorite.

My first year in Choir, I had the luck to stand next to Michael who not only knew the tenor part but sang it beautifully. Mr. Trautwein was our Captain, but you were my First Mate, Mike. Thank you!
