Hi Matt,
My name is Ed Hawley I am from Goldsboro, NC and I just finished reading your article about Mr. Trautwein, I started singing with his touring choir when I was in the 9th grade in 1964, and all the way through 2 years at the local community college, singing in various Gilbert and Sullivan productions, I even built scenery for several local productions of "Amhal and the Night Visitors". I also lived about a half block from him on the same street and rode with him to school every morning. I guess I was as close to him as he would let anyone get, during that time period. He was like a father to me. Your article is a dead on description of the life lessons George taught me too! There are probably hundreds of people whose lives were touched by Mr Trautwein! I last talked with him about a year ago and had the chance to thank him and tell him what he meant to me during those years, he responded going into his teacher persona, just down played his contribution to my journey into manhood. and stated that he didn't do that much. I assured him he did more than he would ever know, and told him I loved him for it! and I will miss him!
Regards!
